The Terrace, Memorial Union
Description
Quirky yet sophisticated, The Dumpy Jug Bumpers play old-time string band music with an authentic fervor. 1920’s and 30’s country blues, original ragtime tunes, and lost pre-war pop obscurities, paint the peculiar landscape of their snapshot of old American music vernacular.Their new release, Dumptown, pulls from the lesser-known material of the bygone era, complemented by well-thought compositions and arrangements. It’s all brought to life by a bouncy hash of the plunky mandolin-banjo, harmonica, finger-style guitar, kazoo, and more, with a heavy bowed bass anchoring their sound. They have recently performed at the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival, the Gays Mills Folk Festival, and are past winners of the Duluth, MN Battle of the Jug Bands. They call the West Bank neighborhood of Minneapolis, rich in it’s musical history, their home base, as they continue to make their mark on the style and tradition. This show is brought to you through a collaboration with the 14th Annual Sugar Maple Music Festival. This free event is intended for UW-Madison students, faculty, staff, Wisconsin Union members and their guests. Anyone can become a Union member.
