Description
USA | 125 mins | No rating | DCP | Dir. Peter Bratt Dolores Huerta is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first farm workers unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century—and she continues the fight to this day, at 87. With intimate and unprecedented access to this intensely private mother to eleven, the film reveals the raw, personal stakes involved in committing one’s life to social change. (From Official Dolores website) “'Dolores' crams a great deal of information, themes, and diverse archival materials into a sharp, cogent whole, tied together by latter-day interviews with Huerta, family members, and esteemed colleagues/supporters from Steinem to Hillary Clinton, Angela Davis, Luis Valdez and Art Torres" (Variety Review by Dennis Harvey) The  Hyphenated-Americans Film Festival  will feature 11 films about Americans with intersecting identities informing their unique experiences of being American. The films will highlight that being American is being a hyphenated-American. This film festival is a response to the current political moment and celebrates the diversity vital to the American experience. This festival has films ranging from documentaries and dramas to a comedy special. This event is intended for UW-Madison students, faculty, staff and Union members and guests.
