"Mapping Monumental Mysteries: Exploring of Wisconsin’s Famous Effigy Mounds" by Amy Rosebrough

Event Details

Date
Wednesday, August 1, 2018
Time
7 p.m.
Description
Between AD 750 and 1200, communities across Wisconsin and adjoining states created earthen burial mounds in the form of animals & spirits—the famous ‘effigy’ mounds. Recent changes in Wisconsin’s burial sites protection law have extended increased protection to the surviving mounds. LiDAR technology has greatly enhanced our ability to locate and monitor damage to the last effigy mounds. We will explore how different communities created their own effigies.
