Tavia Nyong'o Public Lecture
American Profanations: Something of Value, oath-taking, and the problem of black indigeneity
Thursday, October 11, 2018
Tavia Nyong'o, Professor of African American Studies, American Studies, and Theater Studies at Yale University, will present his research that takes the 1957 MGM film, "Something of Value," a film that allegorically maps Native North American resistance onto East African anti-colonial resistance, as a starting point to consider the intersection of black and indigenous studies today. The lecture is presented by the Center for Visual Cultures.
