Peter Sobol, Wisconsin Public Media, will discuss the place of our current interest in the nature of consciousness in the context of the long history of the Western world's efforts to understand awareness and intelligence. His talk will touch on the philosophical, medical, and religious problems that these efforts have encountered and survey several different responses from contemporary philosophers and scientists to this still unanswered question.
