Description

School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences Sponsored Talk/Workshop

In this interactive talk I will explore funding opportunities for faculty and research from the National Science Foundation. This discussion will begin by exploring the professional and material benefits of funding and discuss how it differs from other funding sources such as the DOE, DOD, and NIH. From there, I will present then mechanics of creating a grant, how it gets evaluated, and review the timeline from initial idea, through the awards process, to its eventual completion at the end of the award duration. The main portion of the presentation will explore how to make a good scientific proposal and give some broad recommendations on structure, tone, and content. Lastly, I will provide a number of important tips (dos and do nots) I have learned over the last 20 years of grant writing that are essential to writing a successful grant.
Refreshments will be provided.
