Description
The headscarf has come to symbolize the decline of the coherent nation state, either bringing us closer to a cosmopolitan order or threatening the very coherence of society. We take a different approach and show how the nation is being reinvented by different political actors in debates surrounding the headscarf and that this in turn shows what it means to be Dutch or French. Sponsored by the European Union Center of Excellence, and co-sponsored by FemSem (Sociology of Gender).
