Deinstitutionalization, In/Carceration, and the Politics of Abolition

This talk connects the framework of prison abolition with deinstitutionalization, or the call to close down institutions for people labeled “mentally retarded” or “mentally ill.” It will highlight the utilization of abolition as a strategy of resistance to incarceration within these movements.
