Description
The America Invents Act is the most substantial change in patent law in over 50 years. The final provisions of the law included changing the US patent system from a first-to-invent system to a first-inventor-to-file system, bringing patent law in this country more in line with the rest of the world. This paradigm shift alters the way inventions will proceed through the patent office, and there are steps inventors can take to protect the patentability of their inventions in light of the new law.
