Toddlers are sensitive to anticipatory coarticulation during word recognition

Event Details

Monday, October 27, 2014
Time
12-1 p.m.
Location
COMD GH62, Goodnight Hall
Description
In order to learn from their environment, young children must be able to recognize familiar words efficiently. We performed a looking-while-listening eyetracking experiment involving 18 – 24 month-olds to examine the time course of word recognition under different coarticulatory conditions. The results provide the first evidence that novice word-learners can take advantage of sub-phonemic contextual cues during word recognition.
