Description
Should society assign less value to good effects, and less disvalue to bad effects because they occur in the future? Should what happens in the future be “time-discounted”? This is a central question for the ethics and economics of climate change. After providing an accessible introduction to this issue, Paul Kelleher argues that the 2007 Stern Review made a fundamental mistake, but despite this misstep, Stern and the philosophers are correct: economists should not embrace time-discounting.
