Forty years ago, the Hmong were written of as a primitive, non-literate group coming to America from the refugee camps of Thailand. Today, the Hmong story is in the hands of Hmong writers, poets, singers and actors. The arts have allowed a creative expression of who the Hmong are as a people, (re) interpreted our hopes and dreams, document our realities. Kao Kalia Yang will speak to the Hmong story she has written, is writing, on the evolution of a people years after our coming to America.
