Description
Joyce Yang received her first piano as a present for her fourth birthday and took to the instrument with a ferocity that helped her win several piano competitions in South Korea, her country of birth. Yang moved to the United States and took on pre-college studies at New York's Juilliard School in 1997, eventually winning the Philadelphia Orchestra's Greenfield Student Competition and performing Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra at just twelve years of age. She went on to graduate from Juilliard with honors, winning the school's Arthur Rubinstein Prize in 2010 and the 30th Annual William A. Petschek Piano Recital Award in 2011. The Washington Post describes her technique and presence as having a "poetic and sensitive pianism." Now, in her late 20s, Yang has proven herself as one of the top innovative pianists of her generation. She has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, and the BBC Philharmonic, among many other great orchestras around the world.
