DESCRIPTION:*Note: actual end time may vary.* \n The Wisconsin Union Socia
l Justice Hub invites UW-Madison students and campus community members to
apply to be part of a Social Justice Action Team. As part of a team\, part
icipants choose a social justice topic in which they are passionate and wo
rk to determine action steps to address their topic. Social Justice Action
Teams provide the opportunity for groups to come together around a common
goal and create positive social change. One currently active and successf
ul Action Team is the voting team\, which increased campus civic engagemen
 t. A Criminal Justice Action Team is also being developed at this time. Ap
plicants can choose what their Action Team’s social justice&nbsp\;purpos

Create a purpose statement for the Action Team \n Create a timeline for ac
tivities \n Research related organizations on campus \n Create a process t
o integrate new members as they come on board \n Identify ways to collabor
atively work together\, where possible\, to achieve desired outcomes. \n A
mid-project 10-minute presentation giving details\, challenges and succes
ses \n A final project 10-minute presentation giving details\, challenges
and successes \n Weekly coaching by a Social Justice Hub staff member \n A
dditional suggested Action Team processes are noted&nbsp\; here . \n Socia
l Justice Action teams operate for seven weeks between Feb. 17 to April 9
(skipping spring break)\, with options to modify this.&nbsp\; \n Members o
f Social Justice Action Teams gain: Hands-on experiences working on social
justice issues of interest \n Experiences in goal-setting\, budgeting\, e

approved expenses related to supporting the Action Team\, such as room/AV
costs\, materials\, software and related items \n Selection criteria for S

ht Bit Melancholia&nbsp\;is a site-specific installation that explores the
relationship among nostalgia and technology of the recent past. Here\, gl
itch\, refuse game systems\, and projection mapping are used to question t
he ways obsolete media technologies produce an affective longing for child
hood play. Broken Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) consoles and control
lers are suspended in clear resin\, diced into cubes\, and subsequently re
arranged into sculptural objects to produce a physical\, pixilation effect
. Within the gallery\, a projector maps abstract patterns onto select “p
ixels” so that these sculptures appear as three-dimensional\, rendered i
mages that are in constant mutation and flux. By fragmenting these game sy
 stems\,&nbsp\;Eight Bit Melancholia&nbsp\;rethinks glitch and error as a s
culptural technique intended to defamiliarize our nostalgia and desire to
play with the video games of our youth. These modes of interaction aim to
elicit a melancholic longing for childhood games through the familiarity o
f retro game systems\, yet simultaneously produce uncanny sensations by
“glitching out” these systems—pixelating their material parts—in n
ovel and unexpected ways. More so\, the arrangement of the sculptures with
in the gallery draws a resemblance to ancient cairns: arranged stone piles
that serve as burial markers and objects of remembrance. Similarly\, thes
e pixelated cairns consider the liminal spaces between a desire to revisit
memories through a video game system and new modes of sensual experience
from engaging the body with its refuse parts."\n\nCONTACT: art@union.wisc.

DESCRIPTION:USA | 122 minutes | R | DCP | Dir. Todd Phillips "Joker" center
s around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original\, standalone fictional
story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips' exploration of Arthur
Fleck\, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix\, is of a man strugg
ling to find his way in Gotham's fractured society. A clown-for-hire by da
y\, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night\, but finds the joke always
seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cru
