Description
At the top of their game and known for great Irish music, "the supergroup is widely credited with invigorating the Irish and Celtic music scenes in America for nearly 20 years" (NPR). With flute, tenor banjo, mandolin, whistles, guitars, violins, keyboards, banjo, accordions, and vocals, Solas is anchored by founding members Seamus Egan and Winifred Horan. Named for the Irish word "light," the group has brought the past, present, and future of Celtic music to the stage since it formed in 1996 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Solas has released 12 albums, with the most recent, 2016's All These Years, demonstrating the evolution of the band in their 20 years making music together.
Solas brings modernity and tradition together with edgy interpretations of classic Celtic reels. Its unexpected arrangements, compelling originals and musicianship can make Bob Dylan songs feel like they were born of Celtic traditions. Keeping things light-hearted, their music, both old and new, gets audiences on their feet, singing along and dancing to Celtic music at its most innovative state.
