Event Details

Time
6:15 p.m.
Location

Description

Katsushika Oei was the daughter and assistant of her father Hokusai, one of the giants of ukiyo- e. We can never know exactly how large a role she played in his prodigious artistic output, but it surely included producing designs that went out under his signature. Of much more interest, however, are the ten prints that bear her own signature and show her personal style as well as the way she adapted to increasing exposure to Western pictorial style.
Professor Gene Phillips is a professor from Department of Art History who specializes in Japanese Art.
