Description
The highly syncopated Zydeco music originated in the 20th century among the Francophone Creoles of SW Louisiana. The music shapes the dance -- a syncopated version of the two-step that is done in place, a shift in weight rather than a step, in contrast to the Cajun two-step or waltz. While this is partner dancing with the follower usually mirroring the leader, in open position and “in step” with the music, partners may do completely different steps, allowing for improvisation while still partnering.
