 Musical Grand Tour. Englishman Thomas Coryat (ca.1577-1617)\, from the tin
 y Somerset village of Odcombe\, was not the first tourist\, but he is one 
 of the first truly engaging travel writers in the English language. His Co
 ryat’s Crudities was an entertaining account of his 1608 grand tour of W
 estern Europe\, through France\, Italy\, Switzerland\, Germany and the Net
 herlands. His travels and musical observations provide the frame for this
