Special Friday Night Edition of "Wednesday Nite @ The Lab"

“The Geology of the Great Sphinx" by Robert Schneiker

Event Details

Date
Friday, March 31, 2017
Time
7 p.m.
Description
Although technically located in a desert, the Great Sphinx of Egypt is also within the Nile River floodplain in Egypt. Wicking shallow groundwater has left its mark in weathering the Sphinx. Groundwater modeling was used to help design a dewatering system for the historical site. The geological evidence indicates the Sphinx could only have been constructed during a dry period centered at 4,500 years ago--exactly when Egyptologists say. Web stream: biotech.wisc.edu/webcams
