Steps are vital to good health. For thousands of years, people used step counting to measure walking distances. Since 2000, the use of step counting to promote health has taken off, as wearable step counters have improved in accuracy and reliability. Dr. Bassett and his colleagues have reported “steps per day” in various populations, and examined relationships between steps and health. In intervention studies, they have used step counters to motivate individuals to move more.....
