Japanese scholar Tomoko Torimaru will discuss costumes, symbolism, and their use in everyday life, as well as fiber selection and dye processes, embroidery thread, stitches and embellishment techniques. This lecture is held in conjunction with the exhibition “Writing with Thread: Traditional Textiles of Southwest Chinese Minorities,” on view from Jan. 31-April 12.
