Amir Eshel, Stanford University, will present the life and work of Paul Celan, one of the most significant German poets of the modern era and a survivor of the Holocaust. It will provide insights into major stages of his literary career and unfold his unique approach to poetry, memory and ethics. The lecture will situate Paul Celan in the broad scope of post-World War II literature and reflect on his place as a Jewish poet in Europe.
