Description
“Oshima’s most celebrated film” (Noël Burch) is an ambitious, soaring epic about the triumphs and tribulations of the powerful Sakadura clan after World War II. Told through a series of flashbacks recounting familial rituals -– the Sakaduras maintain their identity through their weddings, funerals, and reunions –- the film follows the sole heir, Masuo, as he integrates into and struggles to break free from his family.
