In this talk, Amber M. Hamilton (Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities) draws on 18-months of digital ethnographic fieldwork within Black Twitter to define a new theory of "doing race" in the digital sphere, showing how social media influences and structures ideas about race and racism in contemporary American society.
