Description
In this presentation of his recently-published book, "Border Conditions", Platt will examine how Latvia’s Russian speakers have balanced between Russia and Europe as well as a socialist past, a capitalist and liberal present, and an illiberal regime in the Russian Federation. Current standoffs relate to the application of the most basic terms—empire, nation, fascist, genocide, socialist, liberal—which are applied on both sides of the border and with opposed significance.
