Amish, traditional Mennonite, and Hutterite (Plain) groups in North America are growing exponentially, and interactions between them and local and state institutions are increasing. As an interpreter and cultural mediator for Pennsylvania Dutch-speaking Plain people in healthcare and legal cases, Mark L. Louden will share examples of successful interactions between Plain communities and non-Plain professionals. He is Professor of Germanic Linguistics at UW–Madison.
