The engraved slate plaques were part of an extensive and variable class of ritual objects in Late Neolithic and Copper Age Iberia (3200-2500 BCE). Found primarily in burials, they have traditionally been interpreted as images of divinities or ancestors. My research over the last 20 years has focused on cataloguing the known plaques, which number over 1900, and analyzing patterns in their designs.
