Description
Thirty years after its groundbreaking premiere, choreographer Bill T. Jones remounts the epic dance-theater piece Still/Here . Originally developed through a series of “Survival Workshops” across the United States—including at Wisconsin Union Theater in 1994—the piece draws from the lived experiences of people facing life-threatening conditions such as HIV and AIDS. Blending movement, personal stories, and striking visuals, this work is a testament to survival and strength and a clarion call to recognize that illness does not define a person or the value of their life. “Still/Here is not just a dance or a revival of a celebrated choreographer’s earlier repertoire…it came across as something about everyday people, white, black, any race, who simply told their stories, shaping themselves to express their deepest feelings and coping with life” (CriticalDance). Runtime: The performance is 2 hours and 2 minutes long. Act I: Still runs 1 hour 8 minutes. Act II: Here runs 39 minutes. There will be one fifteen-minute intermission between the Acts. Content & Sensory Advisories: The performance uses haze, loud sound effects, and strobe light at one point in the second Act. Audiences can be aware that this piece deals with adult subject matter including death, sex, striking projection imagery, and profanity. Photography: No flash photography or video is allowed.
