This talk by Dr. Park examines how geopolitical tensions become lived socioeconomic realities through the lens of Korean Chinese kimchi entrepreneurs. Through examining ethnographic fieldwork at a kimchi factory in China, the talk describes how the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in South Korea was reshaped through transnational media circulation and nationalist fervor into “THAADcraft,” a transformative socioeconomic force in Northeast Asia.
