Description
Kelly McMann, Department of Political Science, Case Western Reserve University, lectures on Central Asian governments that have undertaken market reform provide considerably fewer welfare guarantees and services than their Soviet predecessor. Some observers of the region have speculated that Islamic institutions and foreign charitable organizations now serve as substitutes; however, original interview, observational, and survey data demonstrate that this is not accurate.
