Music of the Old Order Amish

Professor Mark Louden will draw on field recordings of Old Order Amish vocal music to give an overview of the forms of musical expression among the Amish, showing influences from both Central European hymnody and 19th and 20th century American gospel music. An experienced "Vorsinger" (lead singer) himself, Louden also will demonstrate how Amish songs are led in worship and at Sunday evening social gatherings.
