Public attitudes are often cited as a barrier to deployment of domestic energy resources. However, as energy policy and planning rapidly converge with other policy domains that share sustainability ideals and have long traditions of civic engagement, public attitudes may well be regarded as an important barometer of sustainability and a factor in designing energy system change. The implications for policy and technology innovations could be game-changing.
