Scientific research, medical publications, and popular books now use "autoimmune diseases" to discuss and describe seemingly disparate illnesses such as Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, and Crohn’s disease. Dr. Kelly Joyce investigates actors, political and social contexts that inform the creation of the category and its use to classify disease over 80 diseases.
