UW Space Place Guest Presentation
Finding The Higgs Boson
Event Details
Date
Tuesday, October 9, 2012
Time
7-8 p.m.
Location
2300 S. Park Street
Description
The ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider observe an excess in their data from a new particle consistent with the production of a Higgs Boson. They are acquiring more data from the running of the LHC to establish if this is indeed the Higgs Boson and that we stand at the threshold of a new era of understanding the origins of mass. UW Professor Wesley Smith will describe the Higgs Boson, the significance of this discovery, how it was done and the prospects for the future.
