Mass sit-ins in Cairo, strikes in Greece, the occupation of Wall Street . . . These events follow centuries of similar direct action by ordinary citizens. This course uses lectures, readings, movies, and group discussion to explore: The origins and "Golden Ages" of direct action; why and how non-violent direct action works; civil resistance, boycotts, and strikes -- the do's and don'ts; and historic and current examples from around the globe. Wednesdays, Oct. 31 - Nov. 14.
