Description
Irish history, some say, mingles myth and fact and the reality of many events has been obscured by layers of distortion. Remembering and commemorating these events created differing beliefs that defined and maintained the division of Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. This course examines three pivotal events: The Irish rebellion of 1641, the Cromwellian conquest (1649-53), and the Great Famine (1846-51). Thursdays, Nov. 1 - 29. No class on November 22.
