We will explore the revolution in our understanding of how people’s lives changed at the onset of agriculture, focusing on two distinctive systems, one in North China and the other in the Central-South (the Yangtze valley). Through a set of case studies we will explore the circumstances of these innovations on the one hand and stability on the other.
