Ice Drilling Design & Operations (IDDO), located at the UW-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center for 15+ years and funded by the National Science Foundation, will embark on a new avenue of polar science this winter: sub-glacial access drilling and rock coring through new tools developed on campus. Learn more about the system development and testing of the drills, plans for their deployment, as well as the successes and challenges working in polar environments.
