Roger Eltringham, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, United Kingdom, highlights how the World Federation of Societies of Aneaesthesiology is helping global colleagues to overcome some of the additional difficulties they face in providing a safe and reliable service, including the scarcity of trained anaesthetists, inadequate equipment, drugs in short supply and hospitals that can be without oxygen or electricity for prolonged periods.
