Weston Roundtable: Fred Rattunde and Eva Weltzien

Improving seed system functioning to provide quality seed of better performing varieties to millions of African smallholders is a challenge that must be met. Our speakers examined this question for staple cereals in Mali and Kenya. An actor-oriented approach, with assessments of experiences and visions of diverse actors, identified entry points to strengthen these systems. Findings point to actions and processes by which various actors can improve seed system functioning sustainably.
