Description
Amy L. Powell, doctoral student in art history, describes how, despite abundant devotional uses of Mami Wata’s image around the globe, important aspects of her worship remain concealed. Powell discusses exhibition artworks such as devotional altarpieces and looks at them in context of private practices, public ceremonies and museums. This lecture is held in conjunction with the exhibition "Mami Wata: Arts for Water Spirits in Africa and Its Diasporas." Galleries open until 6 p.m.
