Effects on Black and White Middle Class Families
Event Details
Date
Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Time
12 p.m.
Description
Ariel Kalil, University of Chicago, using data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, will discuss how black and white children experience parental job loss differently, even when they share the same class location. About one third of the differential impact is explained by race differences in household wealth, long-run measures of family income and, especially, parental experience of long-term unemployment.
