Description
The purpose of this lecture by Yan Du is to foreground the marginalized genre in the wartime film history of Shanghai, to explore the cross-cultural connections between China's "Princess Iron Fan" and Japan's "Momotarou's Divine Sea Warriors," and to call attention to the multiple modalities of representing a hierarchy of wartime "others" and the multiple positionings of the "self" in the two animated films.
