Description
The "stylish style," as Mannerism has been called, glories in manipulating classical elements such as the nude, refining and distorting them for effect. In the 16th and 17th centuries artists in Italy and the Netherlands built on classical style and popular subjects. The exhibition, primarily drawn from the Chazen’s permanent collection, focuses on the work of engravers who moved away from the imitation of nature and toward the creation of a more expressive and spiritually charged style.
