This talk will examine the rise (and fall) of Bronze Age hierarchical polities through the lens of the Maros Culture (c. 2500-1500 BC), a group occupying the borderlands between modern Hungary, Romania, and Serbia. New research from two major tell settlements, Pecica-Şanţul Mare (Romania) and Rabe-Anka Siget (Serbia), will be examined.
