Who Do You Think You Are? Voluntourism and the Development Exchange
Event Details
Date
Wednesday, February 4, 2009
Time
12 p.m.
Location
206 Ingraham Hall
Description
Lisa Bintrim, a graduate student in the Department of Anthropology, will explore transforming ideas of development through the emergence of voluntourism, with particular attention to how these ideas and practices are experienced in Malawi. Bintrim will argue that traditional models of development that place development actors in a dichotomous, and often oppositional, relationship fail to account for the mutual construction of projects through negotiation.
