The Adverse Effects of the Pandemic on MENA (Middle East & North Africa) Research

Professor Shalaby will present the most recent findings of an online survey of international and regional faculty working in the social sciences and humanities. The talk will highlight the adverse effects of the pandemic on scholars’ productivity and ability to conduct fieldwork. Shalaby argues that while the pandemic has interrupted most scholars’ research plans, researchers who study the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are more likely to encounter higher barriers.
