Speaker Professor Victor Seow of Harvard University, author of Carbon Technocracy: Energy Regimes in Modern East Asia, will discuss his book and recent research on how modern states became embroiled in such projects of intensive energy extraction, driven as they were by concerns over economic growth, resource scarcity, and national autarky. This event is hosted by the History of Science Medicine and Technology Colloquium Series.
