Microbial Source Tracking Tools for Determining Fecal Pollution Origins in Water

Event Details

Date
Thursday, April 16, 2009
Time
12-1 p.m.
Description
Water contamination can have a profound impact on human health. Just ask anyone who drank Milwaukee’s water during the 1993 Cryptosporidium outbreak. Science has now advanced to where not only are we detecting the pathogens that cause health effects, we can determine the origin of contamination. These Microbial Source Tracking methods can determine if fecal contamination came from humans or animals. Join WSLH scientists as they discuss how these tools are helping us know what’s in the water.
