AOS Department Seminar - Prof. Matthew Hitchman
Application of a Cloud-top PV Activity Index to the Evolution and Diurnal Cycle of Tropical Cyclone Yasa
Event Details
Date
Wednesday, February 1, 2023
Time
12-1 p.m.
Location
Description
A variability index for potential vorticity (PV) near the top of convective complexes is used to study the evolution and diurnal cycle of tropical cyclone (TC) Yasa, which occurred near Fiji during 12-20 December 2020. Deep convective updrafts can transport air with different momentum into the upper troposphere / lower stratosphere (UTLS), yielding mesoscale jets, hence horizontal PV dipoles.
